Common Sense

There have been helpful and informative messages going around the internet. I was sent this common sense analogy of the current spending crises in Washington. Take a gander:
"If the US Government was a family, they would be making $58,000 a year, they spend $75,000 a year, & are $327,000 in credit card debt. They are currently proposing BIG spending cuts to reduce their spending to $72,000 a year. These are the actual proportions of the federal budget & debt, reduced to a level that we can understand." - Dave Ramsey

Americans have enough common sense to understand the implications of this type of spending. If only Americans would realize they hold the most power when it comes to solving the problems our country faces. If only Americans would get informed and care enough about the future of our country to get involved!

Another friend sent an email with this message on an Act to Reform Congress. I used to be against term limits but now that being in Washington has become so powerful and lucrative, I am beginning to rethink the term limits argument. The founding fathers knew and warned that when serving in Congress became a source of power and money then every scoundrel would rush to partake. We have a big problem that will require the people sending to Washington enough citizen legislators to reform the abuse of power occurring in Congress. Read the Act to Reform Congress written below.

Congressional Reform Act of 2011

1. Term Limits.

12 years only, one of the possible options below.

A. Two Six-year Senate terms
B. Six Two-year House terms
C. One Six-year Senate term and three Two-Year House terms

2. No Tenure / No Pension.

A Congressman collects a salary while in office and receives no pay when they are out of office.

3. Congress (past, present & future) participates in Social Security.

All funds in the Congressional retirement fund move to the Social Security system immediately. All future funds flow into the Social Security system, and Congress participates with the American people..

4. Congress can purchase their own retirement plan, just as all Americans do.

5. Congress will no longer vote themselves a pay raise. Congressional pay will rise by the lower of CPI or 3%.

6. Congress loses their current health care system and participates in the same health care system as the American people.

7. Congress must equally abide by all laws they impose on the American people.

8. All contracts with past and present Congressmen are void effective 1/1/12.

The American people did not make this contract with Congressmen. Congressmen made all these contracts for themselves.

Serving in Congress is an honor, not a career. The Founding Fathers envisioned citizen legislators, so ours should serve their term(s), then go home and back to work.

Again, from the Common Sense Department another friend shared this message.

These are possibly the 5 best sentences you'll ever read:

1. You cannot legislate the poor into prosperity by legislating the wealthy out of prosperity.

2. What one person receives without working for, another person must work for without receiving.
3. The government cannot give to anybody anything that the government does not first take from somebody else.
4. You cannot multiply wealth by dividing it.
5. When half of the people get the idea that they do not have to work because the other half is going to take care of them, and when the other half gets the idea that it does no good to work because somebody else is going to get what they work for, that my friend is the beginning of the end of any society.

--- REMEMBER ---

IN NOVEMBER 2012, WE HAVE A GOLDEN OPPORTUNITY
TO CLEAN OUT THE ENTIRE HOUSE AND ONE-THIRD OF THE SENATE!

If only Americans would rise up and demand this of themselves and their leaders. It is, in fact, happening! Americans ARE rising up. The TEA Party movmement may in fact be another significant shift in the ongoing conservative come back. For decades conservativism has been a slow growing movement with moments of surging advancement followed by what appeared to be setbacks. We may be on the verge of another surge. It is our opportunity to make sure it endures. That will not be accomplished by compromising but by winning.
